Code of Conduct
Author: Brad Thor
Publisher: Atria Books
Year Published: 2015

Brad Thor’s 14th Scot Harvath novel tackles a new angle readers have yet to see in the rough and tumble world of the former Navy Seal turned covert counterterrorism operative. After an anonymous video makes its way to America, what is depicted is nothing short of devastating. An entire African village destroyed by fire, purposely torched for reasons unknown. Harvath is then dispatched as a favour to the sponsor of the clinic in the village by the President and finds himself in the jungles of Congo as he tries to find out what’s been going on.

Fast paced and suspenseful, Code of Conduct offers constant action and excitement throughout the book.

Scot and his team soon find that time is running out for them as events unfold. And they are fighting against challenging odds to find the answers to stop the impending crisis.

The scenario developed here by the author is as scary as it is likely to happen. Since Thor is known to write fiction that sometimes becomes reality, this makes it even more frightening.

In Congo, Harvath and his team narrow the search to one man and they also discover powerful people within the US who have a massive agenda that could cost the lives of millions.

The book is an amazing read. It is comfortable to see some familiar characters from earlier books, as well as several likeable new ones. Hopefully, we will see more of them in future stories. The dialogue is well written, natural and fitting to each individual character. We also get to see more of Harvath’s mindset, his honour and caring attitude.

There is much to contemplate with this thriller, too. Would you be prepared for whatever form a disaster may take? Perhaps of more concern these days is how easily we can be influenced and manipulated.

Thor explores the various degrees one man named Pierre Damien will go to attain absolute control over others and to finally reach the goal of creating a superior race for and to curb the world population - by resorting to a deadly virus.

The African hemorrhagic fever is the virus and is far worse than Ebola. No one is prepared for this or vaccinated against it. And just as Damien predicted, the heads of the US government begin to succumb to this new plague one by one.

Thankfully, Harvath once again rises to the occasion to stop the most clandestine plan of espionage the world has ever seen.

With the population in a panic and some key government insiders working with Damien and his twisted agenda, Harvath and a small group of colleagues have, not only to stop those responsible, but also to find an answer to slowing the strain before it wipes out billions.

Thor masterfully weaves real-life political themes and choices made by world leaders into a novel that is nicely plotted with fine precision. Code of Conduct grabs readers’ attention and won’t let go until they turn the final page. Thor’s Code of Conduct is another must read.
