Former Treadstone Operative Adam Hayes finds himself at the centre of a web of warring factions and high-level secrets in the second novel in the Treadstone series, the newest addition to the Robert Ludlum collection.

Now classified as persona non grata in the United States and his relationship with his wife Annabelle and his three-year-old son Jack on the brink, the ex-CIA top secret black op Hayes has relocated to Africa.

He is determined to leave behind the black-ops CIA programme for good. After working for Treadstone, Hayes knows just how destructive the programme can be, as it turns government agents into superhuman assassins.

Programmed by scientists to be a killer fighting machine, Hayes ponders and fights with himself to gain control of his true self. He argues with the voice in his head, designed to keep him going while he ekes out a quieter life flying in medical and food supplies to isolated non-government agencies in Burkina Faso.

But Hayes’ option to live a quiet life in Africa changes irrevocably, when, while attempting to complete a charitable mission in Burkina Faso, he is attacked by extremists. Forced to make an unexpected landing, his plane is damaged and he finds himself in trouble.

In order to have his plane repaired and get back in the air, Hayes agrees to transport a passenger - Zoe Cabot, the daughter of a tech baron - to a small coastal city. Just after Hayes completes his flight, Zoe is kidnapped on her way out of the hotel where she is supposed to be picked up.

During his search for Zoe, Hayes runs afoul of multiple enemies, including a rogue Treadstone operative, all of whom are searching for him and for the information about a wire transfer of US$200 millions of bond for the relief effort in Burkina Faso.

In this non-stop action-packed, suspenseful and twisty showdown, Hayes must outrun the various factions that are hunting him, as well as preventing the theft of the much-needed millions from one of Africa's poorest nations.

Joshua Hood is a great storyteller and this latest fast-paced thriller will definitely leave readers at the edge of their seat.
