The Tombs
Authors: Clive Cussler and Thomas Perry
Publisher: Penguin Books
ISBN: 978071815139

Packed with heart-pounding action, intrigue and endless rounds of mysterious treasure hunts, The Tombs is a thriller from the grandmaster of adventure and the fourth of Clive Cussler's Fargo Adventures.

Featuring the husband-and-wife team of archaeologists Sam and Reimi Fargo, the book gets a kick-start with new co-writer Thomas Perry.

In The Tombs, Sam and Remi are called upon by an archaeologist friend who discovered an ancient battlefield in Heidelberg, Germany. The discovery reveals clues to finding the hidden tomb of Attila the Hun. And the hidden treasures that he had plundered during his various conquests.

When Sam and Reimi arrive at the burial site, they’re shocked to find it empty. There’s no evidence of prior entry, and they quickly realise the tomb is the first of many sites, providing a marker or clue to the next buried treasure site. It soon becomes a race against ruthless enemies as they travel to various cities in Europe and across Asia to uncover the clues to not one but five tombs filled with treasures Attila had acquired during his conquests before a ruthless Hungarian who claims to be a descendant of Attila himself, a Russian business man and a French business partner beat them to it. These bad guys will stop at nothing to get their hands on the treasures. Even after Sam and Remi turn the treasures over to the authorities, these three continue to be a threat and put Sam and Remi, their team and home in grave danger.

The story didn’t just end with the Fargos handing over the treasures. The bad guys were out for revenge and they took it to the Fargos at their home.

The story keeps you at the edge of your seat and you can’t wait to see what the next clue reveals.

Sam and Remi are equally smart in different ways.

In this book, Remi gets kidnapped, but she is not some damsel in distress waiting for her prince to rescue her. While she is held hostage, she uses the training she did with Sam to help in her escape.

Overall, The Tombs is better than the last effort in the Fargo books, but it is still the weakest in the Cussler adventure collections.
