The Library by BookXcess opens at Sunway Square Mall
BookXcess opened the largest 24-hour bookstore in Southeast Asia on Dec 10, 2025 at the latest mall in Sunway.
The four-storey mall houses some 130 shops and is accessible via the township’s elevated pedestrian walkway and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system.
The Library occupies 38,000 sq ft area and is the only 24-hour bookstore in Malaysia.
A landmark bookstore built to redefine the reading experience through immersive design, monumental architecture and a strong focus on community accessibility. Spanning across multiple floors, it is one of the most unique and visually striking bookstores in the world.
Among some of the features include the floor-to-ceiling shelves, offering a towering visual experience for shoppers.
One section of the store features the “Flying Book Installations” (pixs above and below) which are actually suspended books held by strings that add movement and magic to the space.
A massive centrepiece in the middle of the store known as the Cone, features gear motifs and a copper build, inspired by Sunway City’s mining history.
A spiral staircase located within the Cone, connects the main floor and the mezzanine, as well as the lower floor of Sunway Square.
Next, “Whale Fall Installation” (pix below) which is inspired by the deep-sea ecological phenomenon features the huge skeletons of the marine mammal and are crafted from discarded BookXcess book pagQes and reclaimed materials to symbolise sustainability and rebirth.
One interesting view from the bookstore is the Lakeside Views which provides a panoramic vistas of Sunway South Quay.
There is also the Art Walls where curated artworks and creative displays are featured.
At the 24-Hour Community Space dedicated study zones, communal seating, and open areas are designed for students, readers, and shoppers to relax and chill out.
And, of course, there are books of all descriptions and titles available throughout the bookstore to cater to all types of readers.
